MODERATE rip current risk and cold water temperatures that will lead to hypothermia south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water wearing thermal protection. Never swim alone, always take flotation!

​LOW rip current risk and cold water temperatures that will lead to hypothermia north of Cape Hatteras including Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!

​Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 1: 50 pm today.
Expect sunny skies today with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. On the northern beaches a west wind around 10 mph, becoming northeast in the afternoon. On Hatteras and Ocracoke southwest winds around 15 mph, diminishing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Surf height 1 to 3 feet. Water temperatures: Duck Pier...52. Jennettes Pier...51.
